On the set of Tower Heist

n our post–Bernie Madoff, post-Enron world, the plot of the upcoming action comedy Tower Heist (Universal), in theaters November 4, sounds like it could have been ripped straight from today’s headlines. Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast in this story of disgruntled workers at a luxury Central Park condominium seeking revenge against Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda), a corrupt Wall Street billionaire who bilked them out of their retirement savings. With the help of a petty crook played by Eddie Murphy, they concoct a plan to steal a cool $20 million from Shaw’s penthouse apartment, where he is under house arrest for embezzling $2 billion from investors.

Production designer Kristi Zea and set decorator Diane Lederman—collaborators on the sets for last year’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps—devised Shaw’s opulent, art-laden residence. Zea toured some of Manhattan’s most prestigious luxury hotels and condominiums and found her muse on the top floor of the Trump Tower International Hotel & Tower on Columbus Circle.

The Met where Michael Blosil jumped

Marie Osmond’s son, Michael Blosil committed suicide by jumping from The Met Apartment Building in downtown Los Angeles. The Met is a highrise built a few years ago and houses students from nearby Fashion Institute as well as USC.

Michael was a troubled youngster attending school nearby when he took his own life. His suicide note, discovered by his roommates, stated that he felt ‘friendless’.

Blosil lived with a few roommates in a large 2 bdr apart in the building. See the floor layout and interior.

The building gets mixed reviews from tenants (via Apartmentratings.com):

I have lived here for almost two years and have been witness to many of the improvements of new management. They have assigned parking and everyone has a decal which shows your assigned space so mixups have completely subsided.

Jim and Alexis Bellino

Earlier, we reported on reality tv star James Bellino owning a Laguna Beach apartment complex. Well,  now he’s converted the complex to a swanky suite hotel (due to complaints which prevented him from allowing the apartments to be leased monthly) and wife Alexis is helping him advertise their new venture.  The property is located in Downtown Laguna Beach near much of the area’s lively nightlife.

The day I was there, a white van was in the driveway, probably doing some repairs for Bridget. I like the exterior of the house, but the lot is small. The home has 5 bedrooms and 5 baths. She paid 1,725,000 for the property in August 2009. In December 2008, the same property sold for 2,000,000, so Bridget got a discount.

Bridget’s home is brand new. The house that was formerly on the property was torn down and her mansion built.

Paula paid 235k for the 4600 sq ft house in late 1999. The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 baths.
